If you know your own weaknesses in the kid-friendly department, it’s easier to imagine what the ideal caregiver should possess—in spades—to earn the right to watch your child, and all for the low cost of one month’s rent, two if you live anywhere that isn’t New York or Los Angeles. That’s right. You will pay anywhere from, oh, $600 to upwards of $1,200–$2,000 a month. This is, no question, the biggest expense of having a kid in the early years (unless you are the mother of budding fashionista Suri Cruise). Here are some basic options:
